Quality
- Physicians: Many of our physicians have worked and trained at the world's most reputable medical centers. They serve as a resource to you. If you'd like help identifying an expert who may be able to answer your questions or help you brainstorm a tough case, contact Ben Gillig at 718.780.5307.
- Technology: The only way to keep a staff of top notch physicians is to provide them with the equipment and facilities that allow them to do their best work. NYM is constantly updating its facilities and adding new equipment to each department.
- Nursing care: We pride ourselves on having high quality, well-trained nurses who are capable of assisting our doctors. Nursing leadership collaborates with doctors to respond to patients needs and solve problems as they arise.
- Education: As would be expected from a teaching hospital, we offer comprehensive, educational events and lectures given by nationally-renowned speakers. Most events are eligible for CME credits. In addition to CME events, we offer a full array of resident and fellowship opportunities. We even have a medical library you may use for research purposes.
Convenience
- Easy access to the ED: When you need to refer a patient to our ED, simply call our hotline and you'll be connected to an attending physician who can prepare for your patient's arrival. This pre-arrival communication is entered into our electronic tracking system so that it will be immediately available when your patient arrives. Our ED doctors will keep you informed and collaborate with you to ensure the best care for your patients.
- Parking: NYM provides physicians with free parking which is especially helpful considering the parking shortage in Park Slope. The physicians lot is on 6th Street, just off of 8th Ave, on the right hand side.
- Convenient, responsive outreach laboratory: NYM provides lab services for physician offices, nursing homes and individual patients. Patients only need a prescription from their doctor before testing can begin. We offer on-demand courier service, perform lab testing every day (including holidays) and provide same day service for most routine tests. Plus we have a comprehensive list of contracts with private health insurance providers. Doctors can view both inpatient and outpatient lab results through NYM's web-based EMR system.
- Coverage when, and if, you want it: NYM offers a hospitalist service consisting of hospital faculty physicians. If you desire, arrangements can be made for the hospitalists to care for your patients during their stay. You and your patients are assured quality inpatient care. Upon discharge, a comprehensive patient care summary will be sent to you. This summary will also be available online via our electronic medical record.
Flexibility
- Access to EMRs from anywhere: NYM offers its physicians a web-based electronic health records. Simply log in from wherever you have a computer and view your patients progress, including lab results (in- and outpatient), radiological images and emergency department records of patients who are discharged back to your office.
- Freedom to treat your patients yourself: NYM is a teaching hospital and while we have many talented residents available to assist you in the care of your patients, we recognize that some doctors prefer to care for their patients themselves, without the help of residents. If that's your preference, please let us know and we'll respect your wishes.
Support
- Medical Board: Our Medical Board has a very strong presence in the hospital and works closely with our administration to make improvements that benefit everyone.
- Administration: NYM administrative body is supportive of its doctors in that it listens to your concerns and collaborates with you to provide patients with the services that meet their needs. Like the Medical Board office, the administrators office doors are always open; feel free to discuss your ideas.
Marketing
- Be in our Physician Referral Service: NYM's call center handles thousands of referrals annually for patients looking for doctors. Sign up for the free program and we'll start sending new patients your way.
- Have a presence on the NYM website: Nym.org receives roughly 35,000 visits per month by consumers who come to the site to research our online directory of doctors and services. On the site, we have a "Find a Doctor" database by which patients can research our physician staff and then contact a doctor to make an appointment. Your presence in this database is critical to new patients finding you. It's a free service and we encourage you to take part.
Comforts
- A place to relax and fuel up: Our Physicians' Lounge is located on the main floor of the Buckley Pavilion. The lounge has comfortable seating, a large screen TV, telephones, computer terminals with Internet access, and free food and beverages.

- Social activities: Clinical departments have periodic get togethers and social events for physicians. Our Department of Medicine, for example, has a softball game each year. And all departments have holiday partys, participate in Hospital fundraising events and celebrate resident graduations.
