Knowledge of and participation in the latest cancer research is an important aspect of effective treatment.  Physicians affiliated with New York Methodist's Institute for Cancer Care are actively involved in clinical trials and several other avenues of research.

A multidisciplinary panel of physicians regularly participates in the Tumor Board.  Members of the Tumor Board discuss the treatment and progress of individual cases on both a retrospective and prospective basis.  Over twenty years of patient records preserved in New York Methodist Hospital's Cancer Registry archive thousands of cases.  These cases are used for retrospective study.  New cases are continuously added and physicians analyze the results of the treatment methods used.

The Hospital is also a regular participant in various National Cancer Institute trials.  These studies benefit patients who are directly involved in them.  They also benefit future cancer patients whose treatments will be determined by the outcomes of the studies.  In addition, through NYM’s connection with the New York-Presbyterian Hospital, we have access to other studies and the most advanced current cancer research.
