Hand and Shoulder Treatment and Surgery -- 718.622.3563
To provide an exceptional level of care for patients who are coping with hand, wrist and arm injuries, New York Methodist provides board certified orthopedic and plastic and reconstructive surgeons who are trained in hand and shoulder surgery.
The surgeons use modern and, when possible, minimally invasive procedures to treat injuries. For example, one technique, called wrist arthroscopy, involves doctors inserting a tiny camera through a small incision in the skin. The camera allows doctors to see cartilage and the surface of bones, so they can evaluate and precisely repair damaged ligaments, fractured bones, and removal cysts.
The doctors treat a variety of conditions, including:
- Hand infections
- Hand and wrist irregularities in children
- Burns
- Repetitive stress injuries such as carpal tunnel syndrome
- Arthritis
- Fingertip reconstruction
- Repair of small nerves
In addition to surgery, more conservative treatments include:
- Rest
- Exercise
- Splinting
- Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medications
- Corticosteroid injections
- Ultrasound
The doctors at NYM encourage people with hand and shoulder injuries to seek immediate care. Early treatment can prevent scarring and loss of motion and movement.
