Back trouble and arthritis are wide-spread problems, yet most adults find it difficult to get effective treatment. The Brooklyn Spine and Arthritis Center at New York Methodist specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of spinal disorders, ranging from mechanical back pain to spinal stenosis.  Rheumatologic disorders treated at the Center include rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis.  Our unique facility is conveniently located on the Hospital campus.  It provides patients with easy access to the MRI/CT Center, x-ray, lab, and other resources needed to diagnose and treat all types of arthritis and back problems.

Physician Services
The Center uses conservative treatment, rehabilitation, and therapy.  Each patient is matched with a physician best suited to treat his or her specific problems.  This means comprehensive and individualized treatment for each patient.  Our interdisciplinary physician team includes specialists in:

Therapeutic Programs

Physical Therapy
Physical therapy is the basis of conservative treatment.  The benefits of physical therapy include:

• Strengthened back, joint, and limb muscles
• Improved range of motion
• Improved aerobic conditioning

Exercise and stretching are excellent ways for people to reduce pain, discomfort, and inflammation.  Other procedures used by the Center include:

• Ultrasound
• Heat and cold applications
• Electrical stimulation
• Massage
• Mobilization
• Manipulation

Individualized Exercise Programs
Each patient receives a customized and supervised exercise program designed for his or her specific needs.  Our staff creates individualized home programs for patients.  This enables them to continue their therapy after leaving The Center.

Complementary Medicine
Complementary medicine can often be effective in the treatment of certain conditions.  Therefore, the Spine and Arthritis Center offers several of these therapeutic methods, including:

• Acupuncture
• Massage therapy
• Reiki
• Qigong
• Chiropractic medicine

Our Location
The Brooklyn Spine and Arthritis Center is in the Medical Office Pavilion at 263 Seventh Avenue (Suite 2B).  It is across from the hospital’s main entrance and has comfortable ergonomic seating.

Physician appointments are available Monday through Friday.  Therapy services are available Monday through Saturday.
