Midwifery Services -- 718.499.3636

New York Methodist has been providing midwifery services for the past 15 years. Each year, our team of talented certified nurse midwives deliver over 400 healthy babies to women with low-risk pregnancies.

A certified nurse midwife (CNM) is an advanced nurse practitioner who specializes in providing pregnancy, birth and postpartum care to families. Our CNMs are registered nurses and have graduated from a master's-level, specialized nurse-midwifery program. They are accredited by the American College of Nurse-Midwives (ACNM), have passed a national certification exam and are licensed by the New York State Department of Education.

NYM midwives offer full scope, family-centered maternity care and are specialists in caring for healthy, low-risk women and their infants. With an emphasis on education and the patient's involvement with her own care, the midwives work in collaboration with NYM physicians and perinatal specialists.

All births take place within the Hospital where the expectant mother has access to specialists, medications and other services that she may need or request.

In addition to offering midwifery and obstetrical services, NYM midwives provide general gynecologic services for women who are not pregnant. Yearly physicals, pap smears and breast exams are performed, with our patients ranging in age from 15 to 95 years,
