As the largest medical department of an urban institution, with patients drawn from every neighborhood in Brooklyn, we are able to offer the young physician an excellent internal medicine-focused training program with fine clinical practice opportunities. In addition to the program director, our a team of experts who lead the residency program includes a deputy program director and two associate program directors to mentor and serve the needs of our residents. We also have numerous fellowship training opportunities in internal medicine subspecialties. New York Methodist provides residents in internal medicine with a breadth of clinical experience that will prepare them to practice medicine in any setting.
New York Methodist Hospital is located in Park Slope, Brooklyn, frequently named the best neighborhood in New York's "coolest" borough. For decades, Brooklyn (the fourth-largest "city" in America) has been engaged in a remarkable renaissance and Park Slope is one of its most vital and beautiful communities. With the finest Victorian housing stock in the country, a community rich in services and shops and an array of surrounding cultural institutions, Park Slope has attracted hundreds of young families in recent years. Furthermore, its proximity to Manhattan (ten minutes to Wall Street by subway) coupled with its friendly, small-town atmosphere makes Park Slope an ideal place for a professional couple to raise children.
Park Slope and its surrounding brownstone neighborhoods are also ideal locations for young physicians ready to begin practicing. New York Methodist is respected by Brooklynites throughout the borough. Newcomers as well as long-time residents enjoy the convenience of having doctors in or near their neighborhoods. In recent years, the number of young physicians to join the attending staff after completing their training at New York Methodist has greatly increased. Several Hospital-owned or leased properties have been converted to accommodate new members of the attending staff.
