Internal Medicine Residency Program
I am delighted that you are considering a residency in internal medicine at New York Methodist Hospital, an affiliate of the Weill Medical College of Cornell University. New York Methodist offers the young physician excellent general internal medicine focused training with fine clinical practice opportunities. In addition, the department has fully approved fellowship programs in cardiology, gastroenterology, pulmonary/critical care, hematology/oncology, and geriatrics. As a 612-bed hospital located in an urban area, New York Methodist provides residents in internal medicine with a breadth of clinical experience that will allow them to feel comfortable practicing medicine in any setting. Yet, we pride ourselves on warm, collegial relationships that do not exist in the impersonal atmosphere of many other large hospitals.
Another great advantage of our Hospital is its location in Park Slope, Brooklyn. For the past twenty-five years, Brooklyn has been engaged in a remarkable renaissance and Park Slope is one of its most vital communities. With the finest Victorian housing stock in the country, a community rich in services and shops, and an array of surrounding cultural institutions, Park Slope has attracted hundreds of young families in recent years. Its proximity to Manhattan (ten minutes to Wall Street by public transportation) and its friendly, small-town atmosphere make the Slope an ideal place for a professional couple to raise children.
In addition to being a fine place to live, Park Slope and its surrounding neighborhoods are ideal locations for young physicians ready to begin their practices. Members of the community respect New York Methodist Hospital; newcomers as well as long-time residents enjoy the convenience of having "doctors in the neighborhood."
In recent years, the number of young physicians to join the attending staff after completing their training at New York Methodist has greatly increased. Several Hospital-owned properties have been converted to office space to accommodate new members of the attending staff.
I am pleased to invite you to apply for a residency in primary care internal medicine at New York Methodist. If you have any questions or would like to visit the Hospital, please feel free to call me at 718-780-5246.
