Ginny Papper and Shorty, Pet Therapy Team,
"This is the best job a dog could hope to get. It's a dream job for any dog who has a sweet disposition, is calm, and loves people and children.  Our pets bring real joy to everyone in the Hospital."

Pet Therapy

New York Methodist Hospital welcomes certified pet therapy teams to visit our patients on a variety of units to provide joy and companionship, as well as alleviate stress and anxiety. Visits from four-legged volunteers motivate patients during their physical therapy exercises, bring a smiles to a patients and provide relief to family members who are anxious about  loved ones. Pet therapy visits are especially appreciated by Hospital staff members.

Pet therapy teams must have up-to-date certification and complete an onsite evaluation.  Humans must be at least 16 years old.  We accept teams from The Good Dog Foundation and Delta Society.

Our pet therapy teams currently visit the physical rehabilitation unit, geriatric psychiatric and adult psychiatric units, pediatric and antepartum units, as well as the infusion center located on Fourth Avenue.  Only hypoallergenic dogs are permitted to visit the pediatrics and antepartum units and the infusion center.

Scheduling is flexible with day, evening and weekend availability.  Visits can be scheduled on a weekly or monthly basis.
