"There was a patient who only spoke Russian and needed help at meal times. We developed a relationship and would communicate in a kind of sign language. On the day she was discharged she signed to me, 'You are like the sun.' That is what I love, to bring a little light to people when they are in a dark place."

Patient Care Program

Patient Care
Anyone over the age of 16 is welcome to apply for a volunteer position supporting patient care on one of our units. Volunteers are trained by our Nursing Education Department to feed, transport, and communicate with patients of all ages. Working as part of the nursing team, volunteers have an opportunity to make a positive impact on a patient’s day. Both students and adult community members find this opportunity gratifying.

Requirements:
Minimum age: 16
Minimum time: Two, four hour shifts per week for a minimum of six months
Times: 8:00 am - 12:00 pm, 12:00-4:00 pm, 4:00-8:00 pm seven days a week*

* One weekday shift required.
