What is your time commitment?
We ask for a minimum commitment of six months of service for all programs. The minimum time commitment for the Patient Care, Project Contact, Critical Care Connections and Administrative programs is two 4-hour shift a week for a total of 150 hours. For all other programs the minimum weekly commitment is listed on the program page. You must be able to commit to coming on a weekly basis.
Is there an age requirement?
The minimum age is to volunteer is 16. During the months of June, July & August the minimum age is 14.
What is the process?
Once your application is received, it is reviewed and assessed. If we have a program that matches your qualifications and desires, we will send you an email to set up an interview. After the interview, you will be invited to attend the necessary orientations. In addition medical clearance is required to certify you are vaccinated from Measles, Mumps, Varicella and Rubella and also free of Tuberculosis.
How long does it take to be processed?
On average, it takes 3-5 weeks to be completely processed and ready to volunteer.
Can I volunteer just for the summer?
Yes. We accept students age 14 and up for summer placements June - August. In addition, we also have a special summer college internship. We begin reviewing applications for these opportunities in March. Please do not apply before March.
Will I be able to shadow a physician or gain clinical experience?
No. We do not offer shadowing or clinical experience through the volunteer office.
Do you have research positions available?
Yes. Please inquire with our office for further details.
If I volunteer will I get a job at the Hospital?
Volunteering at the Hospital does not guarantee employment.
How long do you keep applications?
Online inquiry forms are deleted from our system after 30 days of inactivity. Volunteers who begin the clearance process but do not follow through are deleted from our system at that time.
