2012 Candlelight Gala
NYM's annual Candlelight Gala on Saturday, May 12th at the Brooklyn Museum, was an outstanding success with over 500 people in attendance generating almost $600,000 in support. It was an enjoyable evening celebrating two individuals who have made significant contributions to our Hospital, Emil Baccash, M.D., F.A.C.P. and Charles K. O’Neill, Esq.
The Gala featured a live performance by the Rock 'n' Roll Fantasy Camp All-Stars including Mark Farner (Grand Funk Railroad), Sandy Gennaro (Pat Travers Band/Cyndi Lauper), Mark Hudson (Aerosmith/Ringo Starr producer), Simon Kirke (Free/Bad Company), Kasim Sulton (Utopia) and Kip Winger (Winger) with special surprise guest performers who also serve NYM as doctors. Rock stars signed autographs, posed for photos, dined with guests and most importantly put on an amazing show. The event also featured a photo booth with props for funny photos, a slide show recognizing major sponsors and showcasing photos from the evening, a raffle with 20 amazing donated prizes and a silent auction with signed guitars from the Rock 'n' Roll Fantasy Camp All-Stars.

Proceeds from this event will benefit the Division of Pulmonary & Critical Care Medicine's Sleep Disorders Center. The Center is a six-bed facility that provides state-of-the-art diagnosis and treatment for a wide variety of sleep disorders. Some of the common sleep disorders treated at the Center include sleep apnea, insomnia, limb movement disorders during wakefulness and sleep (eg.. restless legs syndrome), circadian rhythm disorders (eg.. shift-work sleep disorder), and hypersomnias such as narcolepsy. The Center includes sleep diagnostic and treatment facilities, general sleep medicine clinics, and an insomnia clinic staffed by a sleep medicine physician and a sleep behavioral psychologist. The Sleep Disorders Center is fully accredited by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine and it is one of the few centers in Brooklyn with this status.
With your support the Center has been able to acquire new sleep diagnostic and therapeutic equipment that will improve the quality of the studies and enable additional diagnostic and treatment modalities, enhancing our service to both patients and their clinical providers.
