Events and Support Groups Sponsored by New York Methodist Hospital

New York Methodist Hospital hosts a free pulmonary hypertension (PH) support group. This group connects people with PH and educates them on treatments and new developments for the disease. The Pulmonary Hypertension Support Group will meet on Monday, June 2, 2014 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. in the Hospital’s Wesley House, Room 7A, 501 Sixth Street, Park Slope, Brooklyn. Join NYM attending radiologist, Yousaf Mahmood, M.D., for a presentation on the benefits and risks involved with diagnostic imaging. Screen it Like You Mean It will take place on Tuesday, June 3, 2014 from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at St. Joseph’s College, located at 245 Clinton Avenue in Brooklyn. New York Methodist Hospital offers a free breastfeeding support group for new mothers. This group meets weekly on Tuesdays from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. The Breastfeeding Support Group focuses on providing encouragement and information for mothers and their newborns, from birth to three months old. A certified lactation consultant leads the group. The meetings take place in the Hospital’s Wesley House, Rooms 3K-C, 501 Sixth Street, Park Slope, Brooklyn. New York Methodist Hospital, in partnership with Greater Brooklyn Health Coalition, offers free weekly heart pumping dance classes. Dance Your Heart Healthy meets weekly on Wednesdays from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Bed Stuy Multi-Service Center located at 1958 Fulton Street, Bedford Stuyvesant, Brooklyn. Walk-ins welcome. New York Methodist Hospital offers a free cancer support group open to individuals who have been diagnosed with cancer and their loved ones.  The Cancer Support Group will meet on Thursday, June 5, 2014 from 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. in the Hospital's Cardiology Conference Room, Kirkwood 2, located at 506 Sixth Street, Park Slope, Brooklyn. New York Methodist Hospital hosts several free support groups for individuals diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease and their caregivers.

  • The Parkinson’s Wellness and Exercise Class will take place on Thursday, June 12, 2014 and Thursday, June 26, 2014 from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at 748 Union Street, Park Slope, Brooklyn.
  • The Parkinson’s Disease Patient Support Group will meet on Thursday, June 19, 2014 from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. in Wesley House 6A, located at 501 Sixth Street, Park Slope, Brooklyn.
  • The Parkinson’s Caregivers Support Group will meet on Thursday, June 26, 2014 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Call for location.

As a participant in Park Slope’s annual Seventh Heaven Street Fair, New York Methodist Hospital will sponsor free blood pressure, podiatry and dental screenings with health information and giveaways. The event will take place on Sunday, June 15, 2014 from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in front of New York Methodist Hospital on Seventh Avenue between Sixth Street and Seventh Street, Park Slope, Brooklyn. New York Methodist Hospital hosts a free hepatitis C (HCV) support group for people living with HCV and their loved ones. The group will be directed by a physician specializing in liver disorders. The Hepatitis C Support Group will meet on Wednesday, June 18, 2014 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the Hospital’s Executive Dining Room, located at 506 Sixth Street, Park Slope, Brooklyn. New York Methodist Hospital offers a free diabetes support group. The group is facilitated by a certified diabetes educator and is open to people living with diabetes, as well as those who have been diagnosed with pre-diabetes. New York Methodist Hospital offers free surgical weight reduction information seminars and support group meetings open to individuals interested in learning about surgical weight reduction, as well as those who have undergone surgical weight reduction. The NYM Surgical Weight Reduction Information Seminar and Support Group meeting will take place on Thursday, June 26, 2014 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. in the Executive Dining Room, located at 506 Sixth Street, Park Slope, Brooklyn.
