Palliative Care Services
New York Methodist offers palliative care which focuses on people with life-threatening illnesses and enhances quality of life by anticipating and addressing pain, symptoms, and stress.
Palliative care nearly always includes treatment of pain and other physical symptoms such as nausea, loss of appetite and fatigue. It may also include treatment of emotional symptoms, such as depression and anxiety.
In cases where it appears that medical treatment has become ineffective and the illness is terminal, palliative care may include end-of-life preparation.
At New York Methodist, the palliative care team works to optimize care through patient and family-centered collaboration. Partnering with the patient’s primary care physician, the NYM team includes a physician, nurse practitioner, social worker, chaplain, dietitian, psychologist, physical therapist, ethicist and community volunteer.
