Cardiovascular Fellowship Schedule

Rotation Schedule
The first year of fellowship includes two to three months of consultation service, two to three months of CCU, two months of echocardiography, one month of nuclear cardiology and three months of cardiac catheterization. First year fellow also rotates through Interfaith Medical Center for three months.

The second year of fellowship has similar format with the exception of two additional months in the electrophysiology laboratory and two to three fewer CCU and consultation months.

The third year of fellowship incorporates of at least three months of research, rotations through cardiothoracic and vascular surgery and a cardiac transplant month at the Columbia University. Additional electrophysiology and/or interventional cardiology rotations may be tailored to the individual fellow needs.

Outpatient clinic is an important part of cardiovascular training and all fellows spend half-a-day per week either in one of the outreach clinics or New York Methodist cardiology clinic. In the clinic fellows develop knowledge and understanding of primary and secondary prevention of ischemic heart disease, appropriate follow-up of patients with disorders such as advanced heart failure, peripheral vascular disease, etc.

Night and Weekend Calls
The fellow on-call is not required to stay in the Hospital at all times but should be able to come to the Hospital at any time during the call to evaluate critically ill patients. In the case of ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction, fellow on-call responsibility includes, but is not limited to, activation of cardiac catheterization laboratory on-call team. Generally, first-year fellows are on-call one weekend a month and one weekday a week.
